August 2026 Carlos Morales, local resident and loyal spectator at the Phenoms’ games, says: “Don’t think twice and come. It doesn’t matter if you don’t understand all the rules of baseball; come and enjoy this safe environment, full of excitement and entertainment. Believe me that after that first night, you’ll want to come again!” For the fans what defines baseball is its pacing, the natural pauses between plays: the perfect space to chat, fill up on snacks and enjoy the day with the whole family outside. La Voz and the Renegades invite you to one of those days.
For many, baseball can seem mysterious but essentially, it’s a sport to be enjoyed with patience, decoded using your brain and appreciated for its details. A duel of strategy without a clock to determine when it’s over. Time is kept in nine sections called innings. The game starts with nine players on defense and one player on offense. The pitcher throws the ball as fast as possible; on the offense the batter tries to hit it with force, and if it happens, runs the bases on the diamond to score a run.
You don’t need to go all the way to the Bronx to live this excitement firsthand. Around here we have the Hudson Valley Renegades, a team with a rich regional history that since 1994 has filled the area with joy, and today is part of the official MLB scouting system where future stars of the New York Yankees polish up their skills. To see these young athletes compete face to face in intense regional rivalries against teams like the Brooklyn Cyclones (the “younger brother” team of the New York Mets) is a real treat.
Heritage Financial Park, in Wappingers Falls, is a local family park that offers an intimate experience where the seats are so close to the action that you can hear the sound ofthe bat. The most vibrant part of the season that can’t be missed is when the team pays tribute to our Hispanic identity through the national MLB initiative Copa de la Diversion (the Fun Cup).
On these special nights, the stadium is completely transformed and the team changes their official name to Los Fenómenos Enmascarados del Valle de Hudson, or The Masked Phenoms of the Hudson Valley. It’s a celebration of pride for our Hispanic heritage inspired by the mystic and colorful world of Lucha Libre (Mexican wrestling). Even the official mascot changes for the occasion. The charismatic racoon leaves behind his usual uniform to become a wrestler with an impressive red and turquoise mask adorned with the initials HV on the front, a big red cape and boots ready for the ring. The mascot perfectly reflects Lucha Libre through its mix of mischief, strength and fun.
Luis Flores, Manager of Retail Merchandise, explained the pseudonym: “The idea came from our mascot, Rascal the racoon. Racoons have naturally dark fur around their eyes that give the impression of a wrestling mask. The idea for the ‘Phenoms’ is owned to the promising young athletes committed to baseball, with great talent and ability from a young age, they train here until they become part of the official MLB roster.”
On these nights, the music, the food and the environment are just like a Latin party, creating a vibrant scene that sucks you in as soon as you pass through the doors. Flores said that his team works tirelessly for Hispanic families, “from the night’s on-theme decorations, we hang Latin American flags around the whole stadium, to the authentic entertainment we hire like mariachis, a Salsa band, etc., we try to think of everything. Also, we make all our announcements in Spanish!”

The great opportunity to live this experience will be held Thursday August 27th at 6:35 PM, when the Masked Phenoms (the Renegades) will face off against the Brooklyn Cyclones. It will be the perfect close to summer and kickoff for Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations. The first 1,000 fans that arrive will receive an official jersey from the Masked Phenom collection. Also, there will be special Thirsty Thursday promotions on drinks and at the end of the game kids will have a chance to come onto the field for the activity Kids Run the Bases.
