September 15, celebrating the independence of several Latin American countries, marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month. This day symbolizes the stories shared between the United States and its neighboring nations. Here we share some of the Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations and initiatives taking place throughout the Hudson Valley.
Hispanic Heritage Festival in Newburgh
The city of Newburgh will be filled with rhythm and flavor on Saturday, September 6, 2025, with the Hispanic Heritage Festival at the historic Newburgh Waterfront (1 Washington Street), from 1 to 6 p.m. The public will enjoy traditional Hispanic cuisine, salsa and bachata performances, as well as art and crafts by local creators. Hispanic Heritage Celebration Gala in Newburgh

On Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 7 to 11 p.m., the Powelton Club in Newburgh will host the Hispanic Heritage Celebration Gala, an evening of elegance and culture honoring Hispanic contributions in the region. This annual event brings the community together with music, dancing, special recognitions, and a festive atmosphere that celebrates Latino diversity and legacy in the Hudson Valley. Tango and Salsa Classes in Kingston

During Hispanic Heritage Month, Dojo Dance Company is offering two special beginner courses in Salsa and Tango at its studio, 16 Cedar Street, Kingston, NY. The Tango program takes place on Thursdays, from September 18 to October 23, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:15 p.m., introducing students to the elegance and connection of Argentine tango. The Salsa course runs from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m., focusing on basic steps, rhythm, and confidence on the dance floor. Food Truck Fiesta in Bloomington

On Tuesday, September 16, 2025, the Bloomington community will enjoy the Food Truck Fiesta at the Bloomington Fire Department, 14 Taylor Street, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. The free, all-ages event will feature a variety of food trucks, drinks, a 50/50 raffle, and live music by The Spillway Band, known for its mix of rock, country, blues, and R&B. A perfect outing to enjoy with family and friends in a festive atmosphere.

Fiesta on The Hudson at Wave Hill

On Sunday, October 5, 2025, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Wave Hill transforms into an outdoor dance party on its Great Lawn as part of Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations. Under the guidance of renowned dancer and instructor Talia Castro-Pozo, attendees will learn the steps of traditional dances such as salsa, samba, and cha-cha, all while enjoying live music performed by Santiago y La Orquesta and panoramic views of the Hudson River and Palisades. The event is free with garden admission, open to all ages and levels, and in case of rain moves indoors to Wave Hill House, with priority given to “Rain or Shine” ticket holders. New York Empanada Festival in Newburgh

On Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m., the much-anticipated New York Empanada Festival will take place at People’s Park, 1 Washington Street, Newburgh, NY. This event gathers dozens of the best empanada makers from across the state, offering more than 100 varieties of this iconic dish. There will also be live Latin music all day, beverage stations featuring sangria, margaritas, wine, and craft beer, and the exciting Empanada Battle competition for the best flavor. NYRR Open Run at Marine Park (Brooklyn)

On Sunday, September 28, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the New York Road Runners (NYRR) will host one of its renowned Open Run sessions at Marine Park, Brooklyn. This community run, approximately 2.5 miles on a flat course with no sharp turns, is open to runners of all levels. The park serves the communities of Canarsie, Flatlands, Mill Basin, and Bergen Beach, and features trails perfect for walking, running, or cycling. Think Loud Hispanic Heritage Festival in Kingston

On Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the organization Think Loud will present the 5th edition of the Hispanic Heritage Festival on Franklin Street, Kingston. The event will feature live performers, local vendors, and a wide variety of Latin food, creating a festive and cultural space in the heart of the city. A community celebration honoring Latino diversity and pride in the Hudson Valley.

Latinx Festival Tour 2025 – A Vibrant Celebration in Hudson and Catskill

This fall, Latin culture flourishes with the Latinx Festival Tour 2025, presented by Columbia County Sanctuary Movement: a series of three gatherings full of music, dance, and flavor, perfect for community sharing. Each event, held in welcoming venues in Hudson and Catskill, is carefully designed to provide unique and memorable experiences.
 
Family Day in Hudson
On Sunday, September 7, from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m., Return Brewing, Hudson, hosts a family day with live music by Afro & Funk, an interactive dance workshop, and the voice of Mariachi Alexandra. There will also be clowns, children’s face painting, and activities for the little ones in an atmosphere designed for joy and togetherness.
Dance Night in Catskill
On Saturday, September 20, from 7:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., the Avalon Lounge will turn into the stage for a great late-night party with the rhythms of Mr. Pablo and the electropop energy of Chico Racho. Afterward, DJs Tony Tone and Lovely Kandela will fire up the dance floor with vibrant mixes that will keep everyone moving until closing.
Latinx Concert in Hudson
On Sunday, October 12, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., at Story Screen Cinema, Hudson, the tour culminates with the talent of Mario Rincón and the group La Manga, bringing their Afro-Colombian rhythms. In addition, the lobby will turn into a cultural market with Latino artisans and vendors, offering a complete community experience.
