Let's celebrate our month with La Voz!

Por Nohan Meza
September 2022
In the United States, Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15 to October 15. This period begins with the independence dates of several Hispanic countries (such as Mexico, Chile, Honduras, Costa Rica, and others) and each year the contributions to the culture of the United States by people of Hispanic descent are commemorated.
And yes, a small part of those contributions were made by this magazine in your hands, which for almost two decades has been the only printed magazine in Spanish published for eight counties in the Hudson Valley (Dutchess, Ulster, Orange, Sullivan, Columbia, Putnam, Rockland and Greene), providing news, publishing Hispanic culture and news for free, with good humor and enthusiasm. And while our content is free to access, it's not free to create. To commemorate these dates and celebrate our return to events in person, this magazine that is already turning 18 brings you two fundraising events with music, dance and of course, lots of delicious food. These events are also a way of thanking you for our trajectory, since we would not be here without you, our readers.

Harvest Moon with La Voz
Sunday, September 11
3-7 PM at Greig’s Farm (227 Pitcher’s Ln, Red Hook, NY 12571)

What else? Good company, good vibes, raffles, and auctions. Thanks to Norman Greig, Revolución Radio and Wilfredo Morel from Steel Imaginations, for their support. All proceeds benefit La Voz magazine. We are waiting for you! Don't say we didn't tell you about it.

Fundraising with La Voz
Friday, October 21
6-9 PM at Bard College’s MPR, located in the Campus Center

Enjoy Argentine tango and folklore with Eduardo Parra, who will give a concert and will also teach us how to dance tango. We will also have the traditional Veracruz music Son Jarocho in the hands of the group Ameyal de Maria and Mateo. Of course, there will be food, and karaoke! Participate if you dare. We will also honor various members of the community for their services. It will be an unforgettable night.
Suggested donation $20

Taking advantage of the fact that we celebrate our Hispanic heritage together, La Voz proudly lends this space and these events to honor members of the Spanish-speaking community with whom we have been connecting for so many years. On October 21st we seek to honor members of the community and want your nominations.

Nominate the people you know who with their grain of sand work to make our community a little better every day! We seek nominations in many categories such as health, education, sports, culture, entertainment, politics, business, among others. Please tell us why you are nominating that person for La Voz recognition in an email to [email protected] with the word “nomination” in the subject line by September 25. Please include contact information for the nominees.

Come share with us our culture, our language, our food, and our life, after so many years. Together we can laugh, dance and if you dare, even sing if you are up for it.

Tickets for the September 11 event are now available and on sale here: bit.ly/CosechaLaVoz. We will be waiting for you!
