PAST SIMPLE: Regular Verbs (Part 1)
EL PASADO SIMPLE: Verbos regulares (Parte 1)
Por Estela González Torres
February 2015We use the Past Simple to talk about:
- An event that happened at a particular time in the past:
The party was yesterday at 9 pm.
- Something that continued for some time in the past:
We traveled across America for a month.
- Something that happened several times in the past:
We went to the park every weekend.
For regular verbs, just add -ed: Play > played.
There are some exceptions in spelling when adding -ed:
- After a final e, only add d: Love > loved.
- With a final consonant after a short, stressed vowel; double the consonant:Admit > admitted.
- A final y after a consonant becomes i:Hurry > hurried.
