PRESENT CONTINUOUS / PRESENTE PROGRESIVO
Por Estela González Torres
February 2014The present continuous is a verb tense used to describe actions that are taking place now, at this precise moment.
El presente progresivo es un tiempo verbal que se usa para describir acciones que están teniendo lugar ahora, en este preciso momento.
KEYWORDS: NOW, RIGHT NOW, AT THIS TIME, AT THE MOMENT.
PALABRAS CLAVE: AHORA, AHORA MISMO, EN ESTE/EL MOMENTO.
STRUCTURE:
I AM
YOU ARE
HE/SHE/IT IS + VERB + -ING
WE ARE (work, do, come, etc.)
YOU ARE
THEY ARE
i.e. I am working; you are doing; he is coming; she is playing; it is talking; we are dancing; you are eating; they are studying.
Please note that verbs ending with a vowel, lose it: come + ing = coming; live + ing = living. Except for to do: do + ing = doing.
And that verbs like swim, shop and run, double the final consonant: swim + ing =swimming; shop + ing = shopping; run + ing = running.
ESTRUCTURA:
Yo estoy
Tú estás
Él/ella/eso está + GERUNDIO = -ANDO/-IENDO
Nosotros/as estamos (trabajando, haciendo, viniendo)
Ustedes están/vosotros estáis
Ellos/as están
Ej. Yo estoy trabajando; tu estás haciendo; él está viniendo; ella está jugando; eso está hablando; nosotros/as estamos bailando; ustedes están comiendo/vosotros estáis comiendo; ellos/as están estudiando.
Ten en cuenta que los verbos en inglés acabados en vocal, la pierden: come (venir) + ing = coming (viniendo); live (vivir) + ing = living (viviendo). A excepción del verbo to do (hacer): do + ing = doing.
Y que los verbos como swim (nadar), shop (comprar) o run (correr) duplican la consonante final: swim + ing = swimming; shop + ing = shopping; run + ing = running.
